I’ve worked on Semperviva newsletters for a while, pretty much since the initial few, and it has gone through a few design refinements. The first change was inspired by a new Semperviva website and the other times is was just a push for bigger imagery and massaging in the top banner area. After doing so many, it’s interesting to go back and look at some of them. Semperviva is a great client and they allow great creative freedom.

With Apple’s announcement of the new Magic Mouse, it’s clear that the new frontier for UI design is multi-touch. When you get over the wow factor of the Magic Mouse, you can move on 10/GUI by C. Miller. This is the first demo I’ve seen that has convinced me that touch screens can take us away from the mouse.

Recently, I have seen I a lot of news about a Ralph Lauren model who was airbrushed to look reeeeeally skinny and then fired for being fat.
As a result, there has been a lot (more) of talk lately about this topic and thus some French legislators are pursuing the idea that all digitally enhanced photos should carry warning labels saying that they just that.
Now nobody needs to be told that the photo above is altered, but there are definitely too many cases where you can be mislead believing you’re looking at a “real” image. Now, there’s nothing wrong with altering images and creating interesting illusions, but it’s gone a little too far with human portrayal. N’est pas?

I’m not totally sure how off side this actually is? I’m guessing that by most standards it’s quite wrong. What if the artist found the fly’s already dead on the window seal then used them for his art… still wrong? I’m guessing so, but regardless, it’s a pretty interesting yet offside, art project. Check out this and 14 other samples of the artists work by clicking here.

I’m speaking on October 22nd at Creative Mix. The line up of speakers is first rate and I’m really looking forward to the experience. I’ve been slotted in as the final speaker of the afternoon because my topic was deemed a good fit to wrap up the talks and kick start the Think & Drink party.

I’m going to be talking about Selling your Creative, Not your Soul.
Creativity comes in many shapes and forms. My creative outlet comes in the form of branding, advertising and design, but it’s also an extension of who I am both ethically and socially. Creativity, especially in the form of advertising can either be used for good or for evil so I’m careful to use it to promote companies and products that I believe in. Through process we are able to map out where the creative positioning needs to be and by expanding and contracting ideas we are able to produce creative that inspires, communicates and ultimately builds ones brand and drives their sales. It’s through this process that I’m able to continue to be creative again and again and again.
Hope to see you there!

They’re here! The official team outfits for Canada’s 2010 Winter Olympics team were revealed, Thursday morning by the Hudson’s Bay Company, the official supplier for the team. They sure are classically Canadian, what are your thoughts on them? It scares me that they’ve already been called “Hoser Chic” but, they’re definitely much better than Beijing, right?

Well, i’m not usually the type to go to the aquarium or the zoo and look at animals locked up in cages, but I recently ventured out to the Vancouver Aquarium, the main reason being that I had a 2 for 1 coupon to use and I hadn’t been since I was a kid. On the plus side it was a beautiful sunny day to spend at Stanley Park.
As I entered the building I was a bit skeptical about the whole thing, but I quickly forgot about reality when I saw all the amazing tanks of fish and various other creatures.

The only thing that still upset me was the belugas in the outdoor tanks, but overall it was a wonderful trip. The jellyfish were so surreal!
