Meet The Team
Mike Cowie
Studio / Creative Director
Studio director Mike Cowie co-founded Cowie and Fox in 1996. Starting as an Emily Carr educated print designer, Mike shifted his focus to the web and new media back in the darkest days of dial-up internet and is the driving force behind all the award-winning interactive work we do. He's a real jack-of-all-trades. He does the conceptual. He designs the mocks. He writes the code. He even owns a tool belt, and has real tools in it. Respect!
Mike's screen is covered in more windows than you could possibly imagine. He does it on purpose. For one, it looks super impressive. And two, he often hides a soccer webcast in there somewhere.
Face it Mike, you are not fooling anyone.
David Manzl
Creative Director
David is our veteran in house "Design Guru" who is also an avid action sports enthusiast, as well as an accomplished musician, artist and urban gardener.
With a B.A. in Advertising & Communications Arts, and over ten years of professional branding experience, David has been instrumental in developing top retail brands such as Lululemon, Westbeach, Mount Seymour and Please Mum. His non-profit branding accomplishments include branding for the likes of The David Foster Foundation, Greenpeace and MADD. David has a natural ability to develop and translate a strong communication strategy into an award winning visual solution which always meet and exceed his client's goals and expectations.
Jon Tang
Interactive Account Manager
PM Jon is a majestic beast — basically all things to all people. We mean that in a good way. He will write a budget, brief a designer on a new project, do a follow-up call with a client, help develop a storyboard, lend his sharp eye to a branding project – and all that before lunch. Whew, just imagine what he'll do after some sushi. Magic time!
Jon also has a sharp wit.
(If he were to write this it would be way funnier.)
Lance Cummings
Senior Interactive Designer
A true vet of C&F, Lance is truly awesome. Interactively speaking that is. Actually, the title holds true for almost all aspects of Lance. Conceptual abilities – awesome. Design skills – awesome. Video work – awesome. Knowledge of almost everything ever: yep, you guessed it, awesome. As you may have come to understand, we really like the fella. And we really like his work.
Wanna have a good laugh. Tell Lance a joke. His chuckle-gone-howel-gone-giggle is probably the most contagious thing on earth.
Nicole Phillips
Senior Graphic Designer
Design blogs, furniture, typography, soy milk, music and shoes are all elements that contribute to Nicole's design sense.
She has a great eye for colour and space, both of which feature prominently in her work. People are always saying, "Nicole... she just gets it." They are absolutely right. She does.
Alex Rakic
Interactive Designer
Versatile interactive designer Alex is just that, totally versatile. He does it all, and does it all well. Seemingly, Alex always has the answer. And, on the very rare occasion when he doesn't, you can bet that he will make it his business to find it. People like that are hard to come by.
I dare you to challenge Alex to a game of tennis. He may look nice, and he is, but out on the court, he will absolutely crush you. You won't get a point. Not even one.
